After the Christmas break and the New Years celebrations you might be thinking that the party season is over, you’d be wrong. Chinese New Year is coming, and we love to celebrate in style on the Gold Coast.
Let’s take a look at a few of the things the Gold Coast have planned to welcome in the year of the pig! With the pig being a symbol of wealth, we can all raise a glass to a prosperous 2019.
Chinese New Year Festivities
- Where better to celebrate Chinese New Year than in China Town? Enjoy authentic Asian street food at our markets in Young and Davenport Street in Southport on the 9th of February. You can enjoy activities for the children, live music, cultural entertainment, and it wouldn’t be a Gold Coast event without a firework display to finish the festivities.
- Head to The Marine Village at Sanctuary Cove between February 16th – February the 18th to experience Lion Dancing, fireworks and a family fun day of calligraphy, face and lantern painting, and jumping castles.
- Chinese New Year has come to Harbour Town and they’re doing it in style with beautiful lanterns, authentic Chinese music, and Lion dancing; don’t forget to make a wish at the Wishing Tree, but shhhhhh don’t tell anyone what you’ve wished for.
- Fancy a day at the races with a twist? Gold Coast Turf Club is throwing a Chinese themed race day on the 16th of February. You can enjoy the beautiful décor and cultural entertainment and authentic cuisine, you’ll be racing to join in.
Make a splash with the family
It’s tradition to visit family and friends on the first day of the Chinese New Year. The tradition is to pass out red envelops with money called Hong Bao. As the new year celebrations continue, why not make a splash with your family and friends with a parasail, jet ski, flyboard, or jet ski tour, and enjoy fun for all the family down at Gold Coast Watersports.
From all of us at Gold Coast Watersports, we wish you a safe and happy Chinese New Year!
