Valentine’s day

Will you be in deep water if you don’t celebrate Valentine’s day?

For some, Valentine’s Day is about taking the time to celebrate your love, to others it’s a little cliché, but often this attitude can get you in deep water.

I’m talking to all the men out there that aren’t sure whether to buy the overpriced obligatory bunch of roses, or whether they should just forget what some consider to be an overly commercial event.

The history of Valentines Day

Whilst it’s all about Hallmark cards and roses these days, Valentines Day actually has quite a romantic back story. During the rein of Emperor Claudius II, he banned all Roman soldiers from getting married; his belief was that all soldiers should be devoted to Rome, plus he was pagan, so the Christian celebration held no place in his kingdom.

Saint Valentine believed in love, and so he married the soldiers in secret Christian ceremonies. Upon finding out of Saint Valentine’s actions, Emperor Claudius II imprisoned him. Whilst in prison Saint Valentine cared for his jailer’s blind daughter, legend has it that he cured her blindness, and in his last loving act before his execution he wrote her a love letter, signed ‘from your Valentine’.

Saint Valentine was executed on the 14th of February and centuries later old romantics still celebrate love in his honour, but in-keeping with the secrecy of the ceremonies Saint Valentine performed, it was a day that you can celebrate love in secret.

Celebrate love on your terms

If you’re an old romantic but you want to mix it up a little, why not escape the world and take your loved on a parasailing experience. With a Birdseye view of the Gold Coast, the two of you can enjoy some one-on-one time as the world literally passes you by.

Maybe your loved one is more of an adrenaline junkie? A jet Ski tour could be the perfect gift.

Forget the set menu’s, 12 roses, and the chocolates that will just raise your blood pressure and opt for an experience you’ll never forget. Head on down to Gold Coast Watersports and try parasailing, jet skiing, flyboarding, or a jet ski tour, and share an amazing day together that you’ll never forget.
